About

Mudcat Country Radio was launched on March 5th, 2017, after my contract was not renewed for the railroad switching job that I was doing for the past eight years. Mudcat was born because I used to sing along with the radio as a teenager every chance I had. The songs on the radio had meaning to me and they touched my soul. Somewhere between me being a teenager and me being an adult, country music changed. I was no longer singing to the radio and most of the songs that I heard seemed to be similar to other songs in lyrics and beats. Country has gone pop, hip-hop, and God knows what else. I really don’t know what happened, but to me, it has turned into a genre that cared about money and popularity over the songwriting and the real deal artists. Country music was not country music anymore. And I hear people say, “country music is evolving and this is the new country music.” That is just bs. It is evolving into a 80s to 90s pop genre. I can stand some pop music, but the songwriting is just crap. The song serves no purpose other than to fill the airwaves and make money. Then after listening to Pandora one night, I discovered a new era of Outlaw Country.

I discovered a new era of Outlaw country. Outlaw because they are independent artists that aren’t mainstream. They rely on their fans and not their record label. They are the real deal and they have a huge following. Cody Jinks, Ward Davis, Tyler Childers, and Colter Wall. They are the reason Mudcat exists. Because mainstream radio in my area, Greencastle, Pennsylvania, is dead. Mudcat will play these artists and other artists that have the talent and the drive as independent musicians. We will play local musicians, indie musicians, and musicians who just play good new country music. Even artists that play good old country music. We will do interviews and we will post album reviews and we will promote the heck out of this new country music so that the world can listen to good country music again. Music that has soul and music that moves you, gives you goosebumps, and music that makes the hair on your neck stand up. Welcome to Mudcat Country Radio.
